No Mow May -Rewards

La Crosse recently initiated No Mow May, to help spring pollinators that are just emerging from hibernation and those that need the early blooms, in the vast amount of lawns that cover the city..

I was inspired by this gesture and know that even the smallest of steps in the right direction can amount to big changes. So in doing my part to keep the pollen rolling I'm giving away this painting in my own contest.

No Mow May 8x10 oil

Those that want a chance to win just need to email me at cshoreartwork@gmail.com with a story about a gesture they have taken keep our pollinators protected. I'll choose from the top entries, decided by me and draw one  random winner on July 1, 2022.

There is no winner of this painting because there were no submissions to my email. If I missed something please let me know by July 10. Thank you. No winner no responses.

My Biggest Gesture- I got rid of my lawn and let the moss grow and added plants and paths to walk around my yard. So I have a no mow home. This was particularly beneficial not just to the pollinators but a time saver for me. Since when we purchased our home I agreed to mow the lawn while my husband agreed to blow the snow off the driveway. I think I got the better deal here as well as the native insects.

Feeling lucky!

I don't know about you but Friday the Thirteenth makes some people nervous. I hope I don't regret this but today is turning out pretty good so far. Will let you know tomorrow if I've jinked it.

This week Drawn Together gathered at the International Gardens by Riverside Park in La Crosse. This was the firs time I brought my pochade box to paint instead of draw. Painting is like drawing but the with brushes and palette knives and what ever else comes in handy like fingers.

I'm glad to be back painting outside or plein air as the french say.

I just finished this one from Wednesday, doing a few adjustments this morning as I evaluated my efforts and the paint was a little less slippery, as is the case with oils.

Here's my results. Excited to get going on painting the gardens since there is a Paint Around on Fri., June 17 and Sat., June 18 during the International Gardens celebration week. See River City Gallery of La Crosse for more details.

Spring Beauties and Hide and Seek are from my early days of acrylic. For the past three years I’ve been painting with oil and scaled down my efforts. My  thinking was everyone has room for another small painting, plus I ran out of room in my house. Hope you enjoy my paintings as much as I did making them.

Kinstone Spring Opening

A dreary day but who cares when you get a chance to paint onsite. Here's my plein air from today's event at Kinstone.

Spring Opening at Kinstone 8x10 oil

After drizzle and gusts of wind I went inside to finish off. You know oil and water don't mix.
