Play Day aka Art Workshop

Thanks to Stacey from the Franciscan Spirituality Center for organizing a wonderful workshop. Artists, from across the state, came to learn the process called cold wax with oil. Our instructor artist Rick Ross from Summit Art Studio gave us demonstrations and plenty of new techniques and inspiration to play with.

A weekend of getting out of the normal routine and expanding skills. Since I wasn't working from a photo or plein air I was a bit out of my element. I think after doing so many landscapes in the past my recall represented tree lines, grassy and water in the foreground.

After a few I tried being a lot more abstract. The cold wax technique lends itself to non subject matters. Even after lots of layers and scraping they still spoke to me as a landscape.

I finally on the second day forced myself to get  away from representation works. Now I have to figure which way is up. Another new set of challenges. Even titling these is more work.

They are available as is, but as I reflect on the process I may continue to work on them.

Thanks for viewing Colleen Shore. Any question cshoreartwork@gmail.com

Retreat to Chetek

Sunset on Chetek 8x10 oil

A nice respite from hanging around home. We spent a couple of nights, up north, in Chetek, WI. We were hoping on viewing some of the Perseid meteor showers. While waiting we got to see a fabulous sunset. I only caught one meteor as the clouds came in.

But I was happy to catch the sunset for a painting. We were right on the water at Boondoggles Resort, with a quaint cabin to celebrate my husbands birthday.

We ventured around Chetek for some meals and window shopping. If you get up there be sure to check out  CJ Connor Art Studio or do so online www.cjconner.com . The artist was on hand and shared her wonderful insight to her work.

We also stayed around for part of Water Mania Speed Boat Races. Thrilling but not my sport.

Capturing Moments

At Dusk on the Deck 8x10 oil

Another commission of a different sort. Mostly I've been asked to portray dogs and cats, which I enjoy. A patron of the arts who I met at ArtDash requested a painting of her porch. After reviewing several photos we agreed that the colors of this scene and the time of day captured the moment best.

Thanks again Sue H. for sharing and hope the painting will bring back fond memories of evenings on your lovely deck.

Fresh off the Easel from Larson's

Copeland Neighbors 8x10 oil

It's still wet and needs to dry for a couple of weeks but I couldn't resist sharing. I've been working more with palette knife and thicker paint to achieve some interesting texture. Enjoy.

While attending the First Fridays Art Walk for my display at Larson's General I decided to paint. I had done several of the boat houses in the past and it was very popular. I selected a photo I had in my folio and enjoyed the evening chatting with those that stopped by and Josh one of the owners. A great way to spend the evening.

Hope you have the chance to stop by Larson's General, they are open everyday.

Life's a Ride

Life's a Ride 8x10 oil

This bicycle planter caught my eye at Elmaro Winery. I heard there's a long story about this bike. It does look like it's put some miles on and now being celebrated with beautiful flowers.

Speaking of miles or going the distance. My husband Eric and I are celebrating 35 years of marriage this August 1, 2022. We went out for dinner on Saturday night to commemorate and reminisced about all the ways we've celebrated and how fast the years went. We've can say we've had a good ride and in retirement years can now coast on the good times and the hard work creating a life together.
