Acquiring Art

When I see it I know I have to acquire it. It's a definite must have for me!

I appreciate all sorts of art but when it comes to have and behold I have to consider will I give it a proper home. Will I be able to take care of it. Kinda like adopting a pet. Does it bring a smile to my face every time I look at it. These are my requirements for acquiring.

I don't know what makes people go from admiring to to acquiring. It's a fine line and I can appreciate that as an artist. Some consider the future value and status of fine art but I wouldn't waste my time on something I don't love at first sight.

Here's just a few of my recent acquisitions, some were gifts as well. They all make me smile and just wanted to share. Hope you enjoy collecting art as much as artists enjoy making it.

artist Kalla Kalloway

The stories behind these pieces of artwork are varied and personal which makes them all the more special.

Spring Cresting in the Refuge

I've been trying to check on the progress of spring at the Trempealeau Wildlife Refuge to complete my series of paintings "Refuge Reflections" for Elmaro's display in June. I happened out there this past weekend and found the main road closed due to the Trempealeau River reaching over it's banks. Even though this stopped my progress, I found inspiration in seasonal flooding. Sometimes you just have to look past the barriers and see what nature has to offer.

Here's my painting results just off the easel.

A River Runs Over 8x10 oil

A few more from past years spring photos. I can't wait for those fresh bright greens to emerge. With this warm weather and a little more rain everything is going to pop.
A Path to Spring Green 8x10 oil and wax

Greening of the Prairie 8x10 oil and wax

Overlooking Onalaska

Thaw on the Lake 8x10 oil and cold wax

Still Frozen 8x10 oil and cold wax

A couple of weeks ago I had the timing just right for a few photos from the overlook in Onalaska. The sun was just setting and the combination of ice and open water make for some interesting reflections

Naturally I had to interpret them into paintings. Hope you enjoy. The weather is changing fast and I still waiting for that first spring green to finish my series of refuge paintings in the seasons.

Photos taken Saturday April 1st from the same overlook. No foolin', hundreds of Pelicans. At first glance it looked like snow.
