June's Strawberry Moon

I was up early again to see June's full moon setting over the Mosey's Landing on Brice Prairie to continue my series of full moons.. There was some ambient light from the boat landing creating more  highlights on the dock. A gorgeous morning, a bit  balmy at 4 and I was welcomed by a chorus of frogs.

Friday Night Fun at Winghaven

 Artist friends enjoyed some painting and pizza at our local Galesville Pizza Farm Winghaven. Set in a picturesque valley the Grove Family serves up wood fire pizza along with live music.

Families bring their chairs and settle in for some relaxation while kids enjoy games and room to run around.

Summer Blues

Goose Island Launch 8x10 oil

Our drawing group set out for Goose Island to sketch a few weeks ago.  I brought my paints along to capture this scene. The blues couldn't be any bluer and the water reflected an even deeper blue. I've been lucky to get out and plein air paint at multiple venues. From gatherings with sketching groups, for the music at Moon Tunes and now just wrapping up our last Street Market at Elmaro on Sunday. New travel plans are in the works to paint at more locations starting in July. Will keep you posted.

For the past year I've been working on my upcoming exhibit of original oil paintings that will open in August of 2026 at the Blue Heron Coffeehouse in Winona. This month I'm finishing up the last of the paintings and have begun framing and labeling approximately 70 paintings, most will make their debut at my show called From Great to Grand. 

The title was partially inspired by a two trips I've taken to the North Shore of Minnesota. More specifically the areas around Grand Marais. As a member of the Outdoor Painters of Minnesota I joined fellow artists for a week long adventure painting at the Sugarloaf Cabins in Schroeder, MN. It allowed me to paint from Grand Portage to Grand Marais and many beautiful spots along the way.

The other inspiration The Great River Road is the area around where I live and play. From Lansing, Iowa through La Crosse, Wisconsin up to Winona, Minnesota. I never tire of the subject matter. Each adventure out to paint keeps me busy in the field plein air and in my studio.

In addition, I've created a collection of still lives focusing on Good Eats from around the area. After taking oil painting classes and exploring new techniques with Casey Wicka at the Winona Arts Center I can't resist the temptation to explore this subject matter through my painting.  

Be sure to mark your calendars and join me for my opening reception on Friday, August 14 from 5-7pm. at the Blue Heron Coffeehouse in Winona. 

I'll also be bringing over 100 unframed oil paintings just for the opening reception evening. With prices ranging from only $50 to $150 dollars for my 8x10 and 11x14 paintings. Cash and checks accepted.

Starting in July I'll be posting some of the featured paintings and their stories.
