Frozen Bottoms

Frozen Bottoms 11x14 oil

This painting is a result of  a special invite to paint a view of the Black River Bottoms in Trempealeau for a little winter plein air. Thanks again Ellen for having me.

The sun was out but winter still had it's way with the wind whipping across the lowlands. I had just enough time to get my impression of the frozen waters and barren trees. A little time in the studio afterwards and I finished the painting.

This was my third attempt to paint plein air in the winter. Pretty proud of myself to still have all my fingers and toes.
