Grand Vistas before coming home

On the Edge with Lines 8x10 oil

The final stop along the way home from San Diego was the Grand Canyon National Park.

The painting above was done in my studio upon returning home. Going for a little different look than my usual. Incorporating some drawing and painting.

I tried plein air painting on site but when I got all set up I found I forgot my canvases. I wasn't going to give up and pack it up so I found my sketchbook paper to paint on. The paper really soaked up the paint and it was very different and somewhat difficult. But at least I got some color notes while enjoying the view and fresh air.
