My submission for the show hits home. I frequently use Hwy 35 to travel to and from Trempealeau-Holmen to enjoy Cribbage at Trempealeau Hotel, a visit to Perrot State Park or the Trempealeau Refuge to check on the wild flowers and birds, or hanging out at Elmaro Vineyard to plein air paint and sketch.
Recent controversy over the closure of Hwy 35 for bridge repairs would have hindered that experience and caused businesses and residents to suffer the consequences of long detours and lost income.
Hurray! After locals rallied and spoke up it's assured the road will remain passable during the upcoming construction. Repairs are still set to begin in 2026 and last for two years. This painting is dedicated to those efforts.
