Helping with Memories

Momma Bea's Bench

Some commissions just resonate with the feeling of love and loss. I was approached by Karen to paint this bench dedicated to their mother Bea that sits in the Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge.

A simple setting with a complex story. Maybe you remember her? She was an active volunteer.

Here's to making memories that last.

Thanks for letting me share this Karen.

Karen shared a photo of how she framed it up. Just love it.

A discovery in Fountain City

Urban Sketchers of Bluff Country met at JP's  Kitchen and Pub on Friday afternoon in Fountain City and enjoyed a delicious homemade lunch and time to sketch.

Afterwards we walked around town and instead of finding the local historical center open we went into the Post Office to discover these wonderful paintings. Read on about the artist

Oh yeah, my sketch of some local folks playing bridge. They were very patient with us staring at them. I hope we didn't disturb their concentration too much.

Riggs celebrating Retirement of his mom

While at my first event for Old Main Cultural Center Gallery display I worked on a special gift for neighbor and friend Karen. As of Friday she's now retired and can be a stay at home mom for Riggs.

Here's some of the process for painting this pet portrait. I used my artistic license to eliminate the blanket behind Riggs to see a better outline of his body and less details in the background to make for a simpler composition.

Below initial photo and photos at about every fifteen minutes as each phase is done.

Plus a few details added in studio. I like how my palette also changes with each phase.

Will work on another painting coming up on Saturday, April 12. I'll be there 6:30 until 8:30 pm
