Rollin on the River

A surprise voyage on the river, provided by my sister Mary, for me and her special guest. We drove down to Riverside Park, Saturday evening in La Crosse to board the La Crosse Queen a replica of paddlewheeler boat.

We enjoyed a lovely dinner, stories and for me personally lots of inspiration for paintings. I completed these two right away and planning on more as I find the time.

I'm still busy finishing up my next show for Elmaro in October.

Big Wheels 8x10 oil

This paddle wheel boat had a large window in the back to view the action. The setting sun light illuminated the water droplets beautifully and found the wheel shapes abstract qualities interesting.

Up River Ride 8x10 oil

Another vantage point was the lock and dam upriver. It's been awhile since I've been on the water and now that I'm painting everything, the ride offered some new views for future artwork.

Thanks, Mary and special thanks to the captain for a smooth ride. More paintings to come.

Venue of Inspiration-MMAM

With A Little Help... 9x12 oil SOLD

Last weeks visit to the Minnesota Marine Art Museum inspired me to paint the above painting.  A real collaboration of efforts. Great to see how they work to install such large paintings.

While the installation crew was setting up the exhibit of Alexis Rockman:Oceanus  I snapped a few photos and was off to paint the next day in my studio. This new display at the museum is now through January 4, 2026.

Check out Waste Knot by Erik Jon Olson also, artwork made out of recycled materials.

River Arts Alliance Member Exhibit

The show kicks off Friday with

An opening reception will be held at Blue Heron from 5 to 7 pm on Friday, June 27. The reception is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided.

Drive Home 11x14 oil

My submission for the show hits home. I frequently use Hwy 35 to travel to and from Trempealeau-Holmen to enjoy Cribbage at Trempealeau Hotel, a visit to Perrot State Park or the Trempealeau Refuge to check on the wild flowers and birds, or hanging out at Elmaro Vineyard to plein air paint and sketch.

Recent controversy over the closure of Hwy 35 for bridge repairs would have hindered that experience and caused businesses and residents to suffer the consequences of long detours and lost income.

Hurray! After locals rallied and spoke up it's assured the road will remain passable during the upcoming construction. Repairs are still set to begin in 2026 and last for two years.  This painting is dedicated to those efforts.
