Missing the Goats

It's not often you get to see goats at Elmaro Vineyard and Winery. They bring them in to eat the underbrush on the property. During Street Market Sunday on June 9  I had the opportunity to visit with them. These three I took a photo of. I was on the premises to paint plein air with the Artists from the Refuge and when done I painted these three from my photo reference. It's about the only way I can paint moving objects.

Sorry if you missed the goats. I was also absent this past Sunday in order to attend a wonderful workshop with artist Mary Pettis in the Cities. But I'll be back this coming Sunday to continue to paint with my fellow artists.

 Spent Saturday afternoon at Riverside Park enjoying Artspire. So much in fact that when I came home I hit the studio and made 2 paintings. Titled Chalkwalk 1 and 2.

Congrats Kari Hogden

 A big shout out to Kari, fellow artist, painting buddy and amazing person, on being awarded second place for her painting in the 100th Anniversary of the Upper Mississippi River Pools 7&8.

Kari is one of the artists on display at Elmaro Winery in the crush pad with Artists from the Refuge.

You may also see her on one of Sunday's Street Market at Elmaro, plein air painting or drawing with other artists. I had the opportunity to plein paint some of the lupine at Trempealeau Refuge. Her painting really captures the gloriuous range of colors.

Weekend Works-Ready for next Sunday

It's Monday and I'm back in my studio. It was a very productive weekend with two plein air events. I joined  Artists at the Trempealeau Refuge on Sat., then many continued to paint at Elmaro's Street Market Sunday.

The rain on Saturday didn't deter these easel warriors ready to battle rain drops and mosquitos to capture the mood at the refuge. Some hunkered down to create in there cars. You could also see innovative set ups under hatchback hoods and creative umbrella modifications.

Here's some of my finished paintings after evaluating and making some adjustments in the studio.

They should be dry enough for me to take to Elmaro again on Sunday's Street Market. Artists will be out there again. Looking forward to enjoying music, food and sharing our work.

Sunday Elmaro-Plein Air Painting with Artists from the Refuge

On the Road Again 11x14 fresh off the easel from my studio

 We started June off with Artists along the Trail at the Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge and will continue to bring our inspirations via plein air to Elmaros Street Market Sundays. 

Last year painting at the refuge during my show month was so much fun for me.. This year Elmaro  is welcoming the Artists from the Refuge to come every Sunday. Plus you'll enjoy music, food, wine and artisians in the market.

Preparing to Plein Air

 I have plenty of opportunities to paint outside now and thought I'd give my pochade box a good cleaning. You know spiff it up a bit, clean off the build up of paint so it looks pretty.

My sister gave me a big wow after seeing a photo of the box and wasn't impressed by my focus on painting and not cleaning up. It's hard to be a clean painter, at least for me. I thought it looked great, since it showed to me the years of toiling over my artwork. I know other artists will understand.

Sad to say the cleaning process took it's toll on the joints and sliding mechanism. I think it's time for some new gear after painting 900 plus paintings, it served me well. I can still use it in the studio, but one size must fit all,l since I can't  move the easel clamps. 

 

So if you see me out and about say what a beautiful set up I have, cause it won't take long til this pretty pochade box is disguised in paint.

On Sunday's for the month of June I'll be at Elmaro painting during street market.
