Ecker’s Apple Farm
Since 1940, five generations of this family have owned the farm, growing apples along the Great River Road in Trempealeau. Today the all-female-run-farm have put the fun in farming to the max. It’s not just a pick-your-own apples from the past. (Paintings-”Home of Generations” and “Self Harvest”)
Sara Ecker-Foster, Orchard Manager, became my guide showing me around the orchard so I could paint the spring blossoms. Timing is everything, the blooms were spectacular, along with the birds and the bees. (Paintings-”Welcome Spring”, “The Littlest Bird”, “Coming to Work” and “First to Bloom”
I was introduced to Ecker’s premier gala affair the Honey Crisp Hootenanny back some years ago . College friends, Jill and Dave Geisthardt, returned for a visit and wanted to meet up there for Crafts, Music and Food during the peak of harvest, what more do they need for a fall event. Many of my paintings were inspired by that day. (Paintings-”Ready for the Hootenanny”, “Big Top Talent” and “Reaching for the Sky)
Of course since then they have gone above and beyond my expectations, with Hogs Back Brew Farm including ciders, a Beer Garden , Stage, Farm Market and Train Rides, something for every age group. They host events, providing a venue for any gathering you can imagine. Be sure to check out the Half Moon aka Festival of Simon next year in August or coming up Drain the Taps on the last weekend of October. Plus of course, don’t forget to get some apples and try the apple pie. (Painting-”All Aboard” ,”Farm Market” and “Grandma’s Apple Pie”)
On a personal note thank you to the Ecker family for keeping the apples coming and creating new traditions in Trempealeau. It was also kind of you to host our group of artists from Drawn Together. A morning of sketching in the orchard and beer garden. Again , thank you for supporting my artistic endeavor to create this exhibit, much appreciated. I can tell a love of art runs deep in your family. www.eckersapplefarm.com
