Sunday Wine-ding Down

Wine Time-Elmaro 8x10 oil

Sunday's Street Market at Elmaro Vineyard comes to a close for June. My weekly Wine Time was a wonderful way to spend time painting, connecting with people about my art and enjoying the benefits of Elmaro activities.

The last two Sundays the weather wasn't conducive for the Market, threats of thunderstorms prevented the other artisans from setting up. I was still lucky to be able to paint although the rains and wind did have its challenges. Missed you to Morbid Mavens.

A big thanks to the team at Elmaro for accommodating me and promoting my gallery display Refuge Reflections in the Crush Pad. Thursday, June 29 is the last day to view in person, Friday morning I'll be taking it down.

On my last Sunday I got to enjoy some company with friends Linda and Whitey stopping by and sharing a glass of wine. Since the afternoon was interrupted by a short storm I  enjoyed the last part drawing some, enjoying a savory crepe by Jean Luc and listening to music by Under Paris Skies. Life doesn't get much better than that.

Hanging Around Galesville

I spent Saturday helping locals celebrate founders day in Galesville at the Arnold House.

They had some exceptionally talented ladies who made quilts and I thought their display was worthy of trying to paint. I hope I did their hard work justice.

Thanks to Garden of Eden Preservation Society

for inviting me to join in the festivities.

During the event I did a plein air painting from the grounds.  I did feel I needed to do some more work on it in the studio, here it is. If you haven't been there, the historic home is up on a hill with some very very lovely views. The highlight of my day was being located by the canon which  was fired twice. I made sure I put my brush down for this event.

Food for Thought

On a cold December morning in 2022, I drove through Houska Park in
the city of La Crosse to find the homeless shelters still steadfast
against the winters slush and sleet. Wondering who, what , where and
why life's journey leaves some people in these situations. Unbearable
to imagine for me, I turned to my art to try and describe what I was
feeling. I love to camp but wouldn't want it to be a must for my
survival. After sharing the painting with the community through
social media, it raised voices of compassion and some of disdain. It
was as hard to hear the noise as much as to visualize the conditions.
We seem to create their story for them from our own experiences.

What's yours?

Sunday at Elmaro Again-Rain or Shine

I'll be at Elmaro again for Sundays Street Market, painting Plein Air. Hope you have a chance to stop by and visit and see my Gallery Display "Refuge Reflections" in the Crush Pad through June.

I've been busy painting between Sunday's appearances. Now, finally some of my latest pieces are dry enough to bring along for Sunday, June 18.

The first two were Plein Air paintings done at the Trempealeau Refuge during their first Artists in the Refuge Event on June 3.

Here's couple more Plein Air from May when I painted at Kinstone's Spring Open House in Fountain City and Myrick Park during the Earth Day Celebration.

A few more moments to paint, captured by camera and then done in my studio. The deer is from my back yard. The yearling is hanging out as her mother is off with her fawn.

The goat is one from Elmaro. They've had "Goats on the Go" clearing out the underbrush on the property. So cute to see, the kids sure grow up so fast.

Lastly, one inspired from my file of past photos. Just love this one since it caught the barge along the river with a row of magnificent bluffs in Trempealeau.

Sunday Rhythms at Elmaro

It's not work if you love it.

My passion to paint has given me more wonderful days than I could imagine. Especially painting plein air and living in the moment. Elmaro Vineyard in Trempealeau has welcomed me and may artwork by displaying my show "Refuge Reflections" in the their Crush Pad Gallery and inviting me to paint onsite during Sunday's Street Market.

Both Sundays I've painted plein air and each Sunday sold my painting. Here's some photos from Sunday, June 11. I also did some quick sketches to share with visitors. See you next Sunday from Noon to 4pm, I'll be there.

Street Market at Elmaro, every Sunday in June

I had a wonderful time at Elmaro for their first Sunday Street Market of June. I painted plein air, visited with people who stopped by and connected buyers with my art.

I'll be out there again this Sunday for the Market and to hear the music of Crooked Willow, maybe have a crepe by Jean Luc and hopefully see you there.

Here's a few of the new pieces I'll be bringing to the table. Fresh off the easel florals, oil on 4x6 panel boxes for $50 each.

Here's my plein air painting from Sunday, on it's way to North Carolina this week, a memento for a lady who was visiting the winery.

While you're there be sure to visit the Crush Pad for my Gallery Exhibit through June. Colleen

Elmaro in the Crush Pad for the month of June

 Refuge Reflections-of the Seasons

After being invited back to Elmaro Vineyard and Winery to display in June of 2023, I got to thinking what my focus would be. I've grown artistically into being able to feature larger collections of paintings that represent a theme. This is a more cohesive way of taking the viewer along a journey with me. .

I chose the Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge as my muse. Every season she takes us into another color palette and new textures. Each time I had a chance to visit I would try a new path to the Trempealeau Bottoms or revisit Pine Creek Dike to see the changes.

I had many photos from past visits to work with as I had been employed at Perrot State Park for six years and it was easy to start or end my day at the Refuge.

So let me take you on the seasonal changes of the Refuge and reflect on the land.

 Spring

Notes from the Artist-My favorite green. The brightness of spring greens of the new foliage appears. There is still the starkness of winter but the colors of blue have changed and colors begin to pop. The sky turns stormy more often and who doesn't love a spring rain to wash away the winter blues.

Summer

Notes from the Artist-The lush greens in Wisconsin are a challenge against the variety of sky and water blues. I can almost hear the hum of mosquitos.

Fall

Notes from the Artist- Probably my favorite time of year to get outside. Crisp air and no bugs. The color changes and textures are also the most impressive. Grasses are just fun to do, they really loosen up my paintings. Here's where I was excited to begin using cold wax with my oil paints. You can get so much more texture out of the subject matter.

Winter

Notes from Artists- I never expected winter to be so much fun to paint. The snow has such a sculptural quality and the shadows in winter take on a whole new color.

Notes from the Artist- I couldn't help but include this last painting again. It reminds me of all the visits to the Trempealeau Refuge and then being able to relax and reflect at Elmaro.

Thank you for viewing. They are even better in person so I hope you get to visit during the month of June in the Crush Pad.  Questions cshoreartwork@gmail.com
